The Bladder and Bowel Community team will be taking to their cycles again on Saturday 1st July to tackle the tough 112 miles Ring of Kerry Challenge after successfully completing the stunning cycle route last year.
This year around 14,000 cyclists are expected to attend.
This is Mike’s account of how the team got on last year…
“We did it! We managed to cycle the 112 miles without incident. The Bladder and Bowel Community team started off at 7am prompt from Killarney town centre and as you would expect given Kerry is the first stop for weather fronts coming in from the Atlantic, at 7.20am the heavens opened. We then spent the morning taking our waterproofs on and off but thank goodness that the afternoon was dry!
The ride was tough but great fun. The event organisation was brilliant, which it had to be given there were around 10,500 cyclists participating.
The food stops were awesome. I think there may even be a few of us who ended the ride heavier than when we started. The scenery was spectacular and given the roads were closed, apart from 10,500 cyclists and emergency vehicles, it was a good way of taking things in rather than flying past in a blur.
The team all arrived back at the finish line in Killarney by 5pm and we were over the moon to have completed the full course.
The evening, as you would expect, involved restoring our fluid levels in a number of the fantastic hostelries in Killarney. The next day was spent recounting our adventure and travelling back to the West Midlands ready for the next challenge. In conclusion, we had a lot of fun and at the same time raised many thousands of pounds for the Bladder and Bowel Community.
As a group we are really appreciative of the generosity from those who supported us financially and motivationally -Thank You”
